Year 12 says an emotional goodbye

Year 12 Breakfast and Farewell Assembly

The Class of 2022 have said an emotional goodbye to the College at their Year 12 Breakfast and Farewell Assembly this morning.

To start the day, Year 12 shared breakfast with their teachers and peers in Café Bella and F Block, before gathering in the St Peter's Campus Gymnasium for their final assembly at MacKillop.

The assembly featured tributes, dance and song performances, lots of humour, video clips, photo montages, and reflection on the past six years the Class of 2022 had spent together. There were emotional speeches from the College Captains, Year Coordinator Leonie Sullivan, and Principal Michael Lee.

To conclude his address, Mr Lee read the famous Dr Seuss book, Oh the places you'll go. This has become tradition for Mr Lee over the years, and at the conclusion of his speech he handed each member of Year 12 a copy of the book as a gift.

At the end of the assembly, Year 12 exited the gymnasium for one last time to a guard of honour from staff and students that stretched all the way to the student car park. During this time, our Year 12s were able to personally thank the teachers, support staff, and students from other year groups who had helped make their time at MacKillop so memorable.

The Class of 2022 experienced extremely bad luck over the past few years, with COVID-19 cancelling a number of special events and causing a lot of uncertainty ahead of their final year of school. Despite this challenge, the students should be proud of what they have achieved at MacKillop, as well as the way they have achieved it.

Congratulations, Year 12. Thank you for what you've contributed to the College, and good luck for the future!

Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
