The Year 12 Retreat

Congratulations to the Class of 2020, who kicked off their final semester at MacKillop with their Year 12 Retreat on 6 and 7 August.

Usually, Year 12 would have escaped to Sydney’s northern beaches for Retreat, but COVID-19 restrictions meant that the experience had to be held at school. Despite the disappointment of this news, the students of Year 12 engaged enthusiastically in a range of activities where they reflected on their time at MacKillop and the values they will hold in life after school.

The highlight of the retreat was the series of teambuilding activities that brought the pastoral care classes and the wider cohort closer than ever before. One activity required students to go around a circle and explain what they admired in each member of their pastoral class. Another gave students the opportunity to write messages to other members of the cohort. Each of these things brought an added unity to the Graduating Class. The Year 12 Retreat also involved a Mass, a presentation from Mr Lee, and a range of games.

Throughout the entirety of the retreat, the students of Year 12 participated with enthusiasm, cooperation, and dignity – setting all students up to end 2020 and their final year at MacKillop on a high.

The College thanks and congratulates the Year 12 Coordinator, Mr Braden Longo, for the organisation and running of the Retreat, as well as the Year 12 Pastoral team.

Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
