MacKillop invited to MoAD exhibition opening

The Democracy DNA Exhibition

Students from MacKillop were invited to attend the launch of a new permanent exhibition at the Museum of Australian Democracy in the first week of Term 2.

The new exhibition, which is called ‘Democracy DNA – The People, the Prime Ministers, and the World’, was opened by former Prime Ministers Kevin Rudd and Tony Abbott.

Throughout their speeches, Mr Rudd and Mr Abbott encouraged the students, as young people, to work hard, speak up, get involved and engage in democracy.

MacKillop students were the first members of the public to access the new exhibition and to learn more about the history of democracy through interactive exhibits, artifacts, stories, and audio-visual displays.

Some students were also fortunate enough to have a conversation with Kevin Rudd about what makes a great leader and how they can become better leaders.

Acknowledgement of Country

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop made the statement: “We are but travellers here, so while we are here we should do as much good as we can and live in peace with each other.”

With this in mind, the College respectfully acknowledges the Ngunnawal people who are the Traditional Custodians and First People of the land on which we gather each day. The College also pays its respects to the Elders past, present and emerging, and any other Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples living and working in the MacKillop community.
