Alex becomes Aussie Rep

Two years of hard work have paid off for Year 11 student Alexander Floros, who will represent Australia at the U20 Indoor Cricket World Cup in New Zealand this October.

After being overlooked for the previous World Cup, Alex worked on his game and produced an excellent performance at July's National Championships where he scored 170 runs and took 16 wickets.

Having just turned 17, Alex will be one of the youngest members as well as the only ACT representative in the U20 team – a remarkable achievement.

"I wasn't really expecting to be selected but I actually had a really good tournament so I was hopeful of making the squad," he said.

"It was almost a relief to make it because I'd been training hard for two years to become an Australian representative."

Alex, who plays first grade cricket for the Tuggeranong Vikings, now joins a long list of the Floros family to represent Australia in cricket – and his recent selection has made him hungry for even more success in the future.

"The dream for any cricketer is to play outdoor cricket for Australia," he said.

"For now, though, I'm more than happy playing and focusing on indoor cricket."

Australia will go into the World Cup as favourites given its recent history in Indoor Cricket, but they are expecting a strong challenge from New Zealand, who boast a talented squad and the advantage of playing at home.
